How long does it take for a baby to get full while breastfeeding?

Thetubekids.com – Firstly, when newborns have their first feed, parents often wonder: when will they be satisfied? Since babies can’t express themselves verbally, how should parents know if they are full and refuse to eat? Fortunately, there’s no need for parents to overly worry about these questions. Even though newborns may seem helpless, they are quite intelligent and instinctively regulate their feeding. If they feel full, they will naturally stop feeding, much like older children who can feed themselves. Therefore, parents need not be fixated on how long it takes for the baby to get full; instead, they should adopt an on-demand feeding approach for newborns.

Moreover, you can gauge your baby’s satiety using a few methods.

Firstly, observe your baby’s behavior during feeding. If they typically suck 2 to 3 times before swallowing and feed for about 20 minutes, most babies are likely satisfied.

Second, involves assessing the baby’s mental state. If they are full, they will exhibit a content and happy expression, even smiling at you joyfully. They typically sleep for approximately 3 to 4 hours after each feed. If they frequently cry and have very short sleep durations, lasting at most 2 hours each time, it indicates that the child is still hungry.

Thirdly, if the baby has 3 to 4 bowel movements a day with a golden-yellow color, it indicates they are full. The color and frequency of bowel movements differ when they are not satiated, and there may be increased urination as well.

Fourthly, monitoring the baby’s weight can also serve as an indicator of whether they are full. However, for very small babies, it’s normal for their weight to initially decrease after birth. This is considered a normal part of development.
